We’re so excited for the opportunity to share our first experience showcasing as the Invitation Designer for The Big Fake Wedding Birmingham. What’s The Big Fake Wedding, you ask? It’s a bridal show alternative, in the form of a big, fake wedding. A chance for guests to experience a team of collaborating wedding professionals in action…getting a feel for the beautiful event designs and decor, awesome entertainment, great food and cocktails, and even more. From the inspo board, to the final design, we’re revealing how our design came together, and complimented this stunning and elegant Iceland-inspired wedding event.
But first, let’s meet the featured couple,
Matthew and Stephanie (I call the bride “Samantha”…it’s our inside joke).
Hey, it’s a big, fake wedding, right?
The Challenge – Blue Lagoon

December 10th, 2019 was a very cold, windy, and wet day in the Magic City, but fitting as The Avondale Brewing Company was transformed into an icy blue lagoon, with all the feels of wintry warmth, shimmering blues, delicate textures, which all made for a whimsical and ethereal event. That’s exactly what guests saw, felt, and experienced, as we introduced “Winter Wonderlove”, PMC’s custom invitation suite, at The Big Fake Wedding.
“Winter Wonderlove”

Modern, yet delicate, this suite design is a combination of some of the most trending elements in the wedding invitation industry today. “Winter Wonderlove” is composed of polished edge crystal clear acrylic, featuring standard and second surface print techniques. That’s right, that wispy blue and white background you see, is printed from the back of the clear acrylic material, creating depth and sheen using second surface printing, and the deep carbon blue text is printed on front using the standard printing. When guests met PMC in The Tunnel of Love, they were able to experience this invitation in their hands, teasing their senses…feeling the smooth texture of the rounded corners, and the acrylic’s polished edges; seeing through those edges as if they were holding a piece of glistening ice from a beautiful ice sculpture. The invitation suite is accompanied by a shimmering crystal blue Details card, and a crystal RSVP card with a very delicate vellum RSVP envelope. The deep navy velvet ribbon wraps this suite in wintry warmth, and the entire suite is enclosed in an icy white Euro envelope.

PMC’s Big Fake Wedding Experience
As a first-timer for this event, it was amazing to see how all of the wedding pros were inspired in their creations, whether ceremony decor, reception tablescapes, florals, and more. We had an awesome opportunity to meet and network with other local, and some non-local vendors, making connections to forever grow each of our creative businesses.
As guests entered the venue, they received swag bags with amazing wedding planning gifts and guides to help them on their wedding planning journeys. Guests also had the chance to visit the participating wedding pros in The Tunnel of Love, which was a great feature, as we met with and introduced PMC to just about everyone. Guests were able to experience the event’s invitation, as well as, see first-hand just some of our previous work we shared. Great connections were made in The Tunnel of Love.
